Belly button piercing – Five question you should ask before getting one

Body piercing has become more and more popular in the last years, right to the point where it became almost mainstream, with a growing number of people showing navel rings and several ear rings. There are a lot of things to consider when getting a facial or body piercing that it can be intimidating. A lot of questions are asked by people who want to get a piercing, and here we will address the top 10 ones

1. How much will a body piercing cost?

The cost of a body piercing depends on several factors, such as your location, if you are located to a major city or not, what kind of piercing you want to get. Usually, the more difficult your piercing will be, the higher the cost. One aspect you should consider is that you get what you are paying for, so don’t jump for joy when your local piercer charges you a lot less than the market price, this could indicate that he might cut corners in areas that he shouldn’t, such as sterilization or other safety procedures.

* Ears (lobes, cartilage, etc.)…..anywhere from $25-$50
* Navel……………………………..$45-$55
* Tongue……………………………$45-$55
* Labret…………………………….$50-$60
* Eyebrow…………………………..$40-$50
* Nipple……………………………..$45-$55
* Nostril…………………………….$45-$55
* Genital…………………………….$75-$100

2. Does it hurt?

Nobody is gonna lie to you here, of course it will hurt. Will it hurt much? Well, some people say that it doesn’t really hurt that much, but the pain feel is something relative, some people feel it more than others. The sensation is close to a pinching or a popping sensation than anything.

After the actual piercing, when the needle goes through your skin, you may experience some dull pain for a few more hours, but this is easily treatable with an over the counter pill. The one piercing that hurts the most is the tongue piercing, as this is more sensitive and will swell for a few days. To relieve the pain you need to put something cold on the wound, so now it’s your chance to eat some ice-cream or popsicles.

3. How long does it take a body piercing to heal?

The healing time for your body piercing depends on what part of your body you got pierced, as some parts heal much slower than others. For example, a belly button piercing could take up to six months or even a year to heal completely, because it is right where your body turns and twists, and this slows the healing process. Also, your belly button is most of the time covered by clothes, and doesn’t get too much air circulation.

Here are just some general times for healing:

* Ear lobes……….6-8 weeks
* Cartilage………..4-8 months
* Eyebrow………..6-8 weeks
* Nostril…………..3-4 months
* Septum………….6-8 months
* Labret…………..2-3 months
* Tongue………….4-6 weeks
* Nipple…………..4-6 months
* Navel……………5 months-1 year
* Genitals…………6 weeks-6 months

If you take good care of your piercing, you can shorten the healing time, so be sure to discuss and find out the proper care of your piercing with your professional piercer.

4. Is my piercing infected, or it’s just normal healing stuff?

A lot of people are scared of an infection after they got a piercing, but most of the time there is no reason to worry.

You just got a puncture wound on your body, so some bleeding and some drainage of fluids is something normal in the first several days, as your body is heals and tries to clean itself. These fluids are good for your new piercing, because they keep the area moist and clean and will wash away any dirt or bacteria that might otherwise stay in the area and infect it.

The bleeding should stop after a few hours and it won’t be in significant amounts, usually will look watery. The drainage should be clear, like a watery discharge, but sometimes it can have a white color. The crusties that will form from the drainage can be washed off with some warm water and antibacterial soap each day, when you clean your piercing.

You can tell if the piercing is infected if the drainage has a green or yellow color. Also, if it becomes swollen and inflamed after the initial swelling has subsided it could mean that it got infected, and if this is the case, you should see a doctor and get proper medical treatment. Don’t wait to see what happens, go see a doctor immediately if the area becomes red or inflames with red streaks radiating from it.

5. What should i use to clean my piercing?

The best thing you could use, and most professionals agree that this is the best way to clean a new piercing, is a mild antibacterial soap. Don’t use one that has perfumes or dyes in it, because these may irritate a piercing and can cause discomfort or an allergic reaction. There are some soaps on the market that are specifically designed for boy piercing, such as Provon and Satin.

Another thing you could do after cleaning is using a sea salt water soak. This will soothe the area and will draw any impurities out of the wound, and will help in the healing process. H2Ocean is a good pre-mixed sea salt solution, recommended by many professional piercers, which you can use to spray on your piercing.

So, if you take in consideration the tips presented in this article, you should have a safe, attractive body piercing that you’ll be proud to wear and that will attract the attention you desire.
